Linear Circuit and Non-linear Circuit
A linear circuit is one whose output is linearly ralted(or directly proportional) to its input, while a non-linear circuit is vice versa.
Linearity = Homogeneity + Additivity
Homogeneity(scaling) means that the output is multiplied by the constant when the input is multiplied by a constant, i.e.,
Vi-->k*Vi , then Vo--> k*Vo
Additvity means that the response to a sum of inputs is the sum of the responseo each input applied separately, i.e.,
Vi = Vi1+Vi2 --> Vo=Vo1+Vo2 (when Vi1->Vo, Vi2->Vo2)
As a linear circuit, it can only have linear elements, linear dependent source and independent source.
In addition, the voltage and current are linear parameters in a linear circuit, while power is not.
Examples of linear elements are resistance, inductor and capacitor , while examples of nonlinear elements are diode, transformer, iron core, inductor, transistor.
The analysis of non-linear circuit is more complex than a linear circuit, so a non-linear circuit is usually simplied to linear circuit or piecewise linear circuit.
